July Curriculum
For July’s Curriculum, will be focusing on Summer, Camping, Independence Day, the Beach, and Sealife. Instead of studying a continent, this month, we will focus on the Oceans covering the Earth. We will also have new songs to sing, books to read, and curriculum related painting.

Events & Excursions for July
There are several ideas that come to mind when thinking of ways to incorporate activities with the curriculum we are working on this month.
Roseville will have Independence Day events and Fireworks on July 4th.https://roseville.ca.us/residents/city_events/4th_of_july_celebration/
Lincoln will also be having Independence Day events and Fireworks on July 4th, http://lincolnca4thofjuly.com
Folsom will be having a rodeo, and nightly fireworks, 7/2 thru 7/4, https://www.folsomprorodeo.com

A favorite thing to do in July is visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium. They have many wonderful exhibits that are perfect for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. A trip to the ocean is exciting to beat the heat of the Sacramento region. They are just beginning to open up with reserved tickets available 7/1 thru 9/30. www.montereybayaquarium.org/

We also enjoy visiting the California State Beaches. We have seen pelicans, baby seals, kelp, shells, starfish, surfers, and many places to explore. Children love digging in the sand for buried treasures. For more information about additional State Beaches visit: https://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=91/

Friends Leaving for Kindergarten
We have many friends leaving for Kindergarten and TK next month. This will be our last month of school with them. We hope to share lots of fun memories with them before they and their families embark on an exciting new journey!

July Curriculum Songs ~ Woodcreek Montessori School

If You Have a Little Flag
Sing to: “If you’re happy and you know it”
If you have a little flag, hold it high
If you have a little flag, hold it high
If you hold it way up high, you can wave it in the Sky,
If you have a little flag, hold it high!

If you have a roman candle, hold it high
If you have a roman candle, hold it high
If you hold it way up high, you can shoot it in the Sky,
If you have a roman candle, hold it high!
If you have a little sparkler, hold it high
If you have a little sparkler, hold it high
If you hold it way up high, you can light up the Sky,
If you have a little sparkler, hold it high!

To the Beach
Sing to: “London Bridge”
We are going to the beach,
To the beach, to the beach.
We are going to the beach,
In our bathing suits.

We will find there rocks and shells,
Rocks and shells, rocks and shells.
We will find there rocks and shells,
To gather by the water.

We will build a sand castle,
Sand castle, sand castle.
We will build a sand castle,
With bridges and a tower.

We will have a picnic too,
Picnic too, picnic too.
We will have a picnic too,
With sandwiches and oranges.
Home we head with sunburned cheeks,
Sunburned cheeks, sunburned cheeks.
Home we head with sunburned cheeks,
And treasures from our visit.

Five Little Shells
Five little shells lying on the shore,
Crash went the waves, and then there were four.
Four little shells down by the sea,
Crash went the waves, and then there were three.
Three little shells, smooth as new,
Crash went the waves, and then there were two.
Two little shells, sparkling in the sun,
Crash went the waves, and then there was one.
One little shell, left by itself,
I took it home, and put it on my shelf.

I’m a Little Sea Star
Sing to: “I’m a Little Tea Pot”
I’m a Little Sea Star, out in the sun,
I have five arms, but I can’t run.
When I want to go back to the sea,
I must wait, wait, wait, till the tide comes for me.
I’d Like to Live in the Ocean
Sing to: “My Bonnie lives over the Ocean”
I’d like to live in the ocean.
I’d like to live in the bay.
I’d go to school with the fishes,
And swim around all day.
Swim, swim, swim, swim,
I’d like to swim all day.
Swim, swim, swim, swim,
Watch me swim and play.

Pretty Shells
Sing to: “Jingle Bells”
Pretty shells, pretty shells, laying all around.
What a lovely sight to see, shells upon the ground.
Pick one up, it’s good luck, listen to the roar.
Of the never ending waves that beat upon the shore.

Sea Star
I saw an orange sea star, sitting on the beach.
She had five arms with which to reach.
She sat in the sun, all through the day.
But when the tide came in, she swam away.
Way up in the Sky
Wave, wave, wave the flag,
Hold it very high.
Watch the colors gently wave,
Way up in the sky.

March, march, march around,
Hold the flag up high.
Wave, wave, wave the flag,
Way up in the sky.

The Whales
Sing to: “I’m a Little Tea Pot”
I’m a humpback whale, I’m very strong.
I leap about and sing this song.
I like to eat my fill in the Northern Sea,
But in the winter it’s south I like to flee.

I am a beluga, I’m all white.
From head to tail, I’m quite a sight.
You can hear me singing way up north,
Playing and swimming back and forth.
I’m a mighty orca, black and white.
In the sea, I’m a beautiful sight.
I’m not very big, but I am sleek,
I hunt for my food, cause I have teeth.

Cranky Crabs
Five cranky crabs were digging on the shore,
One swam into a net, and then there were four.
Four cranky crabs, were floating in the sea,
One got tangled up in the seaweed, then there were three.
Three cranky crabs were wondering what to do,
One dug a deep, deep, hole, then there was two.
Two cranky crabs were warming in the sun,
One got scooped into a cup, then there was one.
One cranky crab was smarter than his friends,
He hid between the jagged rocks, and that’s how the story ends.
