August Curriculum
For August’s Curriculum, will be focusing on Summer, Wildlife Safari, Zoo Animals, the Rainforest and Jungle, and the continent of Africa.  The outdoor courtyard will have new activities to reflect our August curriculum with a new sensory box, and new materials on the outdoor shelves. We will also have new songs to sing, books to read, and curriculum related art.

Curriculum-based Excursions for August
For the month of August, we have a few fun ideas for places you could visit, considering our Wildlife theme. You could visit the Sacramento Zoo, http://www.saczoo.org/, and enjoy all of the wild animals they care for. A place in the Bay Area to visit would be the San Francisco Zoo, http://www.sfzoo.org, where there are many amazing animal exhibits to explore. You can “visit” the San Diego Zoo https://kids.sandiegozoo.org/videos and enjoy all of the wild animals they care for via live cams in your home. They have many different animals to interact with. Another place to “visit” virtually, would be the Georgia Aquarium to watch the African penguins swim and play https://www.georgiaaquarium.org/webcam/african-penguin-cam/

Material Fees Due in September

Next month, the $90.00 material fee per child, will be due with the September tuition payment. This material fee helps cover the cost of new classroom materials throughout the year to keep our environment looking fresh and new. We appreciate you providing this yearly Material Fee. Thank you!

August Curriculum Songs ~ Woodcreek Montessori School
100 Animals
I went to the zoo, and what did I see?
100 animals, looking at me.
There were,
10 tall giraffes, eating from the trees.
10 silly monkeys, scratching on their knees.
10 sleeping snakes, lying in the sun.
10 munching elephants, eating peanuts one by one.
10 leaping tigers, performing in the shows.
10 pink flamingos, standing on their toes.
10 grouchy bears, trying to get some sleep.
10 happy hippos, in the water deep.
10 roaring lions, walking two by two.
10 galloping zebras, all living in the zoo.

I’ve been working in the Rainforest
Sing to: “I’ve been working on the railroad”
I’ve been working in the rainforest,
All among the trees.
I’ve been working in the rainforest,
Where I saw the bats and bees.
Parrots, butterflies, and toucans,
Monkeys and hummingbirds galore.
Frogs and snakes and spotted leopards
On the rainforest floor !
I’ve been working in the rainforest,
All among the green.
I’ve been working in the rainforest,
Where the plant life must be seen !
Ferns and mosses and lianas,
Orchids and honeysuckle, too.
Oh, how special is the rainforest,
A magical place come true !

Alligator on a Log
There once was an alligator sitting on a log,
Down in the pool he saw a little frog
In jumped the alligator, and around went the log
Splash went the water, and away swam the frog

I know a Giraffe
Sing to: “On top of Old Smokey”
I know a giraffe, with a neck that’s real high
She stretches and stretches
Till it reaches the sky.
She lives on the plains
With the Elephants too.
You might also see her, when you go to the zoo.

One, One, the Zoo is Lots of Fun
One, one, the zoo is lots of fun
Two, two, see a kangaroo
Three, three, see a chimpanzee
Four, four, hear the lions roar
Five, five, watch the seals dive
Six, six, there's a monkey doing tricks
Seven, seven, elephants in heaven
Eight, eight, a tiger and his mate
Nine, nine, penguins in a line
Ten, ten, I want to come again!
The Zoo
Sing to: “Skip to My Lou”
Come along children, we’re going to the zoo,
Come along children, we’re going to the zoo,
Come along children, we’re going to the zoo,
Going to the zoo today.
Continued,
See the animals living in the zoo, x3
Living in the zoo today.

The Animals at the Zoo
Sing to: “The Wheels on the Bus”
The lions at the zoo go
Roar, roar, roar,
Roar, roar, roar,
Roar, roar, roar,
The lions at the zoo go
Roar, roar, roar,
All day long!

Continued,
The snakes at the zoo go hiss, hiss, hiss
The hyenas at the zoo go ha, ha, ha
The monkeys at the zoo go oooh, oooh, oooh
All day long!

Five Green Speckled Frogs
Five green speckled frogs
Sitting on a speckled log,
Eating some most delicious bugs.
Yum, Yum!
One jumped into the pool
Where it was nice and cool,
Then there were four green speckled frogs.
Ribbit, Ribbit!
